Nestle India to cut costs by going green

In line with the global trend of going green, FMCG major Nestle India is working on a series of initiatives to reduce use of natural resources and cut costs. - Satyam to cut cost by having fewer offices - Antonio Helio to head Nestle India - Strike ends at Nestle"s Pantnagar plant - Strike at Nestle"s Pantnagar plant - Markets at a glance - Nestle India Q4 net up 23% at Rs 197 cr Some of the steps being taken by the company include utilising steam generated in its boilers for substituting fresh water. It also reuses waste water after treatment to reduce fresh water intake. Besides, the company uses waste cashew shells and coffee husk as alternative fuel for boilers. "At the factories, efficiency and controlling costs extend beyond the commercial operations to minimise consumption of natural resources and reduce waste and emissions," a company spokesperson said. He said that with the help of these steps, Nestle has been able to reduce water wastage by around 70 per cent. "We are pleased that during the last 10 years even as sales have increased substantially, the company has reduced the generation of waste water by around 70 per cent." "Nestle will continue to implement best practices and initiatives that help increase efficiencies and reduce costs," the spokesperson said.
