Rs 18,000 cr tax collections signal recovery in industry: CBEC

Markets pare gains in noon trades

The Sensex opened in the red following cues from Asian markets. The index touched a low of 16,161 but recovered to a high of 16,357. The index has dropped again and is now down 70 points at 16,288. - Markets in recovery mode - Sensex off day"s low; IT index down 2% - Fortis Healthcare up 2% on fund raising plans - Sensex opens weak on global cues - Markets to remain volatile, say analysts - Rebound expected early next week The Nifty is down 10 poinst at 4,872. The consumer durables index has gained 4% at 3,959. The realty and healthcar indices have added over 1% each. However, weakness has persisited in the BSE IT index. Infosys has shed 3% at Rs 2,42. TCS is down 1.2% at Rs 726. Hindustan Unilever has dropped 2.7% to Rs 237. ITC is down marginally at Rs 249. Hindalco has slipped 2% to Rs 144. HDFC Bank and SBI have declined 1.7% each to Rs 1,603 and Rs 2,023, respectively. Tata Power, NTPC and Larsen & Toubro are the other losers in the market today. On the other hand, Grasim has gained 1.5% at Rs 2,631. Mahindra & Mahindra, DLF and Sun Pharma have advanced around 1% each. The BSE market breadth is fairly positive. Out of 2,605 stocks traded, 1,893 have advanced while 661 have declined.
